YOUR ROLE:

The Commercial Underwriting team is a core part of Alliance Legal Solutions. The position of Funding Director /Legal Counsel interacts on the front lines with law firms, both potential and existing clients, to educate and guide law firms through the financing application process, manage oversight of loan accounts once funded and provide strategic support to law practices post-financing.  The role combines aspects of relationship management and business development with deal management, and also requires the analytical review and presentation of data of that are part of financing decisions for loan applications.   This position provides a unique opportunity to apply a background in litigation within the finance sector in a company on the leading edge of the legal financing industry. 


YOUR DAY TO DAY:

  • Identify qualified opportunities for funding and provide information and guidance about financing to law firms

  • Building and managing relationships with prospective and existing clients

  • Due diligence on business through multiple data resources to analyze funding opportunities

  • Analyze, value and assess the viability of cases within a portfolio  

  • Preparation of loan package and investment memos

  • Interact with credit committee on underwriting review, approval and terms

  • Real-time negotiation with law firms regarding loan terms

  • Provide ongoing loan oversight and relationship management post-funding often working with legal, and accounting teams

  • Represent the company through written material, media and formal business development activities

  • Working with technology team to further enhance efficiency and automations in underwriting

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • JD from an accredited top tier law school

  • MBA or financial experience preferred, though not required

  • 5+ years of commercial litigation experience.

  • Experience within at least some of the following: commercial litigation, personal injury, breach of contract, employment disputes, mass tort, class action

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Experience with client relationship management systems or programs (Salesforce experience preferred)
